Buy A New House That Looks Dull And Dead On The Outside? Give It New Life With A Low Budget

Blog

If the outside of your new home is dull and boring, and it makes the house look bland and outdated, there are many ways you can improve the curb appeal even if you don't have a lot of money to spend. When you are excited to show off your home, but it doesn't look like there is much to be proud of from the outside, it can take away the excitement that you have for your property. Here are a couple of things to consider to make a dramatic change to the exterior.

Cut Out an Area for Sod

Trim out an area around the sidewalk or walkway, or just around the house, and remove the topsoil in that area. Have a load of sod (from an outlet such as B & B Hoffman Sod Farms) dropped off and fill the area where the topsoil has been removed. This is going to compliment the house and the property, and it gives you a place to put bushes, flowers and other plants. Adding solar powered lights or garden ornaments is also ideal in the sod. Sod is a cheap way to make a big impact, and you can choose what color matches your home the best.

Paint or Stain Shutters and Doors

Add a new bold color of paint on the shutters and front doors around the house, even the garage door. If you don't have shutters, consider adding some around the front of the house. Exterior paint is affordable and easy to apply, and it's an easy way to make the house have accent pieces that pop. You can even get porch furniture or vases that match the color of the shutters and doors. If there are outdoor lighting sconces or lanterns, paint these to match as well.

Fertilize and Trim

Fertilize and treat the grass so it's a rich green color, and so the lawn looks healthy and lush. If you have a lot of trees or bushes around the property, make sure that they are trimmed neatly. Trimming the property line and around the mailbox helps to make the yard look much cleaner.

If you need to make big changes outside your house, but your budget is very small, these are things you can do at a very low cost to see improvement quickly. These changes are going to draw attention in a good way when people drive and walk by, and they are going to improve the value of the property.
